The story of the candy is quite unclear, but popular versions point to Atlantic City, New Jersey, approximately the 1880s. One story goes that a waves swept into a confectionery shop owned by Joseph Fralinger, making his caramel gooey. Desperate to save his goods, Fralinger supposedly yelled for
